A reflection on Milan Fashion Week

By: Amber Godbehere

In September, fashionistas across the globe got to live in the excitement of fashion weeks from London, New York, Paris and Milan for the spring and summer seasons of 2019. Fashion weeks occur twice a year for designers to share their designs for the upcoming seasons.

Milan fashion week recently took place and some of the shows included Prada, Giorgio Armani, GCDS, Dolce and Gabbana and many more.

Milan fashion week this year took place from Sept 19 to Sept 25. Many events went on throughout this week but only a few were open to the public. All of these events helped create a memorable fashion week with some very interesting styles and designs. There were a number of events and designs that I loved from this fashion week.

With all the designs that were shown during these fashion shows, it’s hard to choose a favorite one. There were many unique and intriguing outfits, but there were also a few that I wished I owned in my closet. A lot of my favorites came from street style fashion shows.

One of my favorite fashion shows from Milan fashion week was the Dolce and

Gabbana show. I loved all of the styles in the show, as they were so unique and fashionable. In an interview for Vogue, Stefano Gabbana explained the ideas behind the show that represent Dolce and Gabbana as a whole, focusing on the human look. The background of the show was the word “DNA” and a fingerprint to represent humans.

The Dolce and Gabbana fashion show was not your typical one, as it included men and women of all ages, even having a baby as a model. There were a few female models who were holding hands, showing that Dolce and Gabbana is at a progressive stance in the fashion industry. Gabbana also claimed that all the outfits were handmade, which makes sense, because all of the outfits were so fascinating and remarkable.

One of the most interesting fashion designs that people are still talking about all over social media are the rave-ready outfits from the GCDS fashion show that included two models with three breasts.

“We’re a young group here – we’re all under 30 – and I wanted to talk to people our age about the future and get them thinking about plastics, water shortage, and the environment. Full sustainability is impossible, and I wanted to show to be a wake-up call,” said the GCDS creative director, Giuliano Calza, in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily about his idea for the show and the three-breasted models.

This was certainly an interesting Milan fashion week, but one of my favorites. If you missed it this year, head over to https://fashionweekonline.com/milan/replays to watch some of the top fashion shows.
