Beat the Heat! Ice Cream Review by an Ice Cream Fanatic

By: Alyssa Tarpley

Came across this sign on my ice cream escapades and it is now officially my new life motto. If you’re an ice cream fanatic or just looking for something to do this weekend, TREAT YO SELF to something sweet from these heavenly ice cream shops.

Slickables: Brickyard Engineering, 699 S Mill Ave #117, Tempe, AZ 85281

For only $2, you get to make a personal ice cream sandwich! I got Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream with a Funfetti cookie. They have a variety of ice cream flavors and cookies to satisfy all your cravings. While you’re enjoying your delicious, bang for your buck ice cream sandwich, you can enjoy people watching on the busy streets of Mill Ave.

Baked Bear: Mill Avenue, 420 S Mill Ave #106, Tempe, AZ 85281

A little pricier but with that price comes a great arrangement of ice cream and warm cookies for everyone. As well as a unique arrangement of toppings to add to the ice cream on the sides ranging from sprinkles, almonds, fruity pebbles, chocolate chips and much more! Another great location to enjoy a tasty treat right on a corner of Mill Ave. I got the Peanut Butter cookies with the original Bear Batter ice cream and my friend Jaslyn got the Snickerdoodle cookies, Chocolate chip ice cream with sprinkles. 100 percent recommend making a trip to this savory ice cream shop!

Melt: 910 N 5th St, Phoenix, AZ 85004

Located only a walk’s away from ASU’s Downtown Phoenix Campus Dorm, Taylor Place, Melt is definitely a MUST! College student in the area or not, paying a visit to this little ice cream shop will not be regretted. I got the Raspberry Sorbet and Jaslyn got the Peaches n Cream ice cream that were absolutely heavenly. Adding onto the uniqueness of Melt, their ice cream is served in Chinese food takeout boxes with a fortune cookie on top. This one of a kind ice cream deserves a standing ovation.

Sweet Republic: 9160 E Shea Blvd #105, Scottsdale, AZ 85260

After enjoying a round of Glow in the Dark Putt Putt a few doors down, we finished the night with some savory ice cream from Sweet Republic. It was a very wise decision of strawberry sorbet that was out of this world. I could taste the sweetness and freshness of the real strawberries, it was delightful! Definitely recommend going for a round of Putt Putt and walking over to Sweet Republic to enjoy some REAL delicious ice cream.

Churn: 5223 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012

Got to finally enjoy the delicacy of Churn ice cream with my mama and sister this past weekend and boy am I glad I did! I had heard many people raving about Churn and we set out to try it and make up our minds. Well, we tried it and we have nothing but good things to say, my mama and I got “Almond Joy” ice cream which was divine. My sister got “Cookies and Milk” with real cookies in it, which was just as superb. Churn definitely lived up to its name and I will without a doubt be visiting again in the near future!

I always say there’s no problem that ice cream can’t fix, so good day or bad day make a trip to one of these ice cream shops and you will be happy you did!
