The runway was reinvented this past week as Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week made way for some of the most innovative and distinctive designers of our time. A day didn’t go by without some flare of genius, but there was most definitely a handful of statements made that will live on far past the debuts made this past week.
Vera Wang is a most obvious candidate for best in fashion for the week, and always. Adorning the runway with her geometric tunic blouses and sophisticated shears, Wang most definitely set the bar with her extremely wearable collection. Confidence and class exuded off of her models as her focus on low, draping back and necklines successfully addressed the spotlight. Vera Wang is recognized as a top designer this week mostly for introducing her collaboration of futuristic chic meets timeless class so seemingly effortlessly.
It is no surprise that Marchesa yet again stunned the runway as designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig invoked a sense of clarity as their stunning gowns showcased a refreshingly feminine fit for the models. Not only were they dreams in the drop waist dresses but commanded the room with a series of lace, florals and fringe. It seemed as though the gowns told a story with all their lines and intricate detailing. Marchesa is mostly being acknowledged for standing out this week for their pieces being so fabulously fit for royalty and capable of making any woman feel as if she were.
Tory Burch revived the runway with her inevitable commitment to poised prominence. Burch’s collection never ceases to be anything but avant-garde and stays true to its timeless beauty. Florals and turquoise accent pieces were especially focused on, channeling a classic vintage look. Burch’s hand-painted leather leggings helped to create a unique and inventive feel. Burch’s reason for recognition as a stand-out designer during this past fashion week is for most apparent reasons. That being her endless loyalty to maintaining her prim and proper looks, while still building upon them.
Another top collection to have watched for this past New York Fashion Week was Michael Kors. Kor’s chunky knits and trim and tailored pieces were enough to stop any crowd. The most remarkable of his pieces however, were the dresses cascading with sequins rendering this collection downright fabulous. Kors opted for fur, making the ensembles more current and couture. This collection is awarded with achieving sheer luxury for wearability and perfecting the order in which pieces were showcased, making for the ideal balance of minimal and eclectic versatility.
Last, but certainly not least was Badgley Mischka, who reiterated their très chic approach to fashion and the red carpet look as these ensembles dazzled the runway with their femme fatale approach. Goth chic was redefined with Badgley Mischka’s dark textiles and models’ smokey eyes. The velvet and furs were impeccably placed and were embraced by the complementing lines of the models. The contoured lines of the pieces help to create sophisticated symmetry and were well executed. Badgley Mischka set themselves apart from the rest this week because of their refreshingly daring, yet triumphant vision.
Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week made for an impressive series of dynamic trends and most undoubtly provoked the urge in most of us to renew our prescriptions for fashion.
