As an Italian I’m admittedly a little biased when it comes to Italian fashion—the only thing we take more seriously than pasta. However, as a fashion journalist I’m not allowed to practice bias; Milan Fashion Week makes that so hard. Friday in Milan reminded us why they save the Italian designers for last and the day’s collections in six words: flawlessly tailored, elegantly timeless and undoubtedly Italian.
MOSCHINO

Moschino’s Rossella Jardini credited her inspiration to Audrey Hepburn in the film Two for the Road for this collectio—she had me at that. Modernized ‘60s mod meets sharp black, crisp clean white and Italian femininity for some of Milan’s most couture-seeming ready-to-wear looks.
JUST CAVALLI

Roberto Cavalli was just classic Cavalli in his collection, which was highlighted by the designer’s expert use of sheer flow, fearless pattern combinations and pale slip-dresses. The distressed denim paired with and daring leopard print, Grecian white and electric-violet flowers made this collection classic Cavalli sophistication.
ETRO

Paisleys were praised and Grecian white runway-aflight in Etro’s Milan collection. Asian-influenced cuts and oriental patterns were the fashion pillar of Etro’s looks. The gorgeous flora designs were custom hand-painted prints weaved throughout the entire collection, as homage to Etro’s paisley beginnings.
ICEBERG

Iceberg took sweater vests and mesh to the Italian level Friday, but the rest fell a little short of chic. The pink and tangerine color-blocking combo feels last season and the generic-shaped patterned dresses left us underwhelmed. Nude beige, midnight black and creme white color-blocked mesh sweaters stole the collection but failed to take us to spring.
BLUMARINE

This ivory collection by Blumarine affirms that we’ll be walking in a creme white and sheer wonderland this spring. Coopery orange metallics, relaxed fuchsias and ebony black fell like pleated drapes to the runway’s floor; combined with the silvery and lustrous whites made this collection glitter with spring’s most modernistic looks.
VERSACE

Versace’s collection stole the day in Milan with their daringly polished black and nude lace looks paired nearly knee-high gladiator heels. Only Versace can dance so delicately and successfully on the line of nude and still pull of classy. Models’ charcoal-lined eyes glowed under their thick and perfectly voluminous blowouts and they strutted the italian fashion house’s latest.
