Sunday’s New York Fashion Week shows featured designs of Derek Lam, Donna Karan, Tracy Reese and Diane Von Furstenberg. These shows gave us a look into the Fall color palette and trends to look out for. Here is my take on the day:
Derek Lam
Derek Lam’s runway looks included tailored knee-length skirts and a surplus of jackets. Leather was a hot textile featured in red, brown and white. His collection had several ankle-length trousers that flattered the figure while still remaining loose.
Tracy Reese
Tracy Reese exhibited a mixed color palette in her show of reds, greens and lemon yellow mixed with neutral browns and blacks. The bursts of color in many of her pieces were my particular favorites of this show. Many of her pieces were also finely tailored with the “working woman” clearly in mind.
Donna Karan
Donna Karan was all about skirts in her show. Her color palette was dark with mostly grays and blacks – the standard NYC dress code. My favorite of her pieces was the wide belts that gave a shape to her coats. That’s definitely something I’m going to be looking out for when it comes time for stocking my fall closet.
Diane von Furstenberg
With the help of her co-designer Yvan Mispelaere, Diane Von Furstenberg brought us a collection featuring a swath of bright colors. They were all interesting hues, many lemon yellows paired with maroon. I think the collection lacked a bit of cohesion, there weren’t any silhouettes followed throughout the whole show. What I liked most was one of the pieces that came at the end that featured a wide, red belt and a simple tailored brown skirt paired with a white long sleeved top.
