NYFW: Feb. 11 Recap
In one of the most fashionably pleasing fashion week days, it was difficult to distinguish runway style from street style. The snow turned all of Manhattan’s streets into a fierce competition of fall fashion. While it’s hard to even focus the eyes solely on runway, here are a few successful looks from day five.
The Row
The Row’s fashion show took place in a empty rented Upper East Side house filled with random bits of furniture—leave it to Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, designers of the infamous Damien Hirst pill backpack (retail value: obscenity). Somehow this unusual ambiance worked well with the classic and simple sophistication of this collection. We see subtle hints of the menswear trend but not overwhelming, and it certainly didn’t distract from the ebony and ivory femininity.
Alice + Olivia
If you were ever wondering where the names Alice and Olivia stem from, search no longer: they belong to the mothers of the two designers behind the successful NYC-based label. Alice + Olivia lived up to it’s downtown Manhattan style reputation and gave the city’s fashion pallet a little taste of everything. From ‘40s inspired lace to flirty floral, this collection came closet to resembling an entire fall wardrobe.
Marc by Marc Jacobs
What I love about Marc Jacobs (if it’s even possible to sum that into words) is his ability to incorporate trends into his designs without sacrificing next season’s wearability. Jacobs embraced menswear but didn’t forget he was designing for women—not all designers this season can take that victory home. His simple taste blended perfectly with statement and timeless style.
