What Guys Don’t Like: Straight Forward

Trends seem to come and go just as fast as boys do. So why should we let men dictate what we put on? It’s time to break down the top trends that men hate but women should just wear anyway.

Trend – Color Blocking

This trend has become a favorite of women everywhere during the past year. Unfortunately, some men aren’t so hot on the idea.

Andrew, a 22-year-old student told Marie Claire that he’s a bit confused by the look. “It’s not bad looking, but it seems outlandish. Something for older women or hipsters,” he stated.

Color blocking is a trend that’s here to stay. First off, it’s simple to do and usually always comes off as effortlessly cool. When a sartorial trend can be easily emulated without paying through the nose, it’s a keeper. But, it’s all about the choice of colors.

Experiment with the trend by blocking with bright neons that keep the look young and fresh. That way you’ll pique his interest in a good way and won’t have him confusing you for an older woman. As for the hipster look? You’re on your own there.

Trend 2 – The Red Lip

Women have been rocking a red lip since the dawn of time. It’s a classic statement for ladies, but guys seem to find it overwhelming.

Phil, 25, told The Gloss that, “Red is like…ugh…it’s like shouting at you, like you’re trying too hard for me to notice you.”

Others complain that red lips make a girl less kissable, and therefore less desirable.

Listen, guys. We’re sorry that our pout isn’t exactly a siren call when it’s coated in lipstick, but you’re going to have to deal with it. Adding a fun shade to your lips is such a great way to enhance a look and boost confidence that it shouldn’t be sacrificed for one night of less than perfectly kissable lips.

However, it’s important to take the guys’ opinion into account for this one. If you’re wearing a red lip, keep the rest of your face simple. That way you let your natural beauty shine while still being able to have fun with color.

Trend 3 – Maxi Dresses and Skirts

This is a pretty recent trend that has been wholeheartedly embraced by the female community. Guys, however, are confused.

A panel of men commenting for Refinery29 aren’t fans of all this covering up. “Remember the last time we complimented you on your amazing legs? Neither do we. With maxi dresses, long skirts, and ’70s wide-legged trousers, you may as well stop shaving.”

While guys may have somewhat good intentions for not liking this one, girls still win. Maxi dresses are a fun, flowy and casual statements that shouldn’t be retired just because men can’t see our legs for one day. To balance out the show of skin, pair a maxi skirt with a loose tank top that shows off your arms. That way everyone is happy.

The good news for college girls is that guys our age aren’t too picky. They like to see us in just about anything, some items more than others.

John Mercier, a 20-year-old business marketing major has a theory behind this. Right now, “Girls are wearing what guys want to see,” he said.

There is, however, one item college boys don’t want to see on their fellow female classmates.

“Underwear! None!” members of the ASU men’s soccer team shouted when asked about their opinions on fashion trends they wished girls wouldn’t wear.

Sorry, guys. We’re keeping those on, too.
