Your Complete Style Guide to Phoenix Lights 2020

Updated: Nov 16, 2023

As temperatures begin to rise, the market for glitter and booty shorts has seen a spike and every house party at ASU seems to be blasting the newest EDM.

A normal weekend in Tempe? Maybe.

Or, it could be that Relentless Beats is preparing to host the annual Phoenix Lights festival at Wild Horse Pass, a 3-day long music festival happening from April 3-5, featuring the likes of Alesso, Afrojack, and other various EDM superstars.

A weekend of raving is not something to take lightly. Attendees must prepare physically, mentally and of course, fashionably. The “anything goes” attitude towards fashion at raves makes putting an outfit together super fun, but also kind of stressful.

Questions like, “How much is too much glitter?” “Am I showing too much skin?” and of course, “Do I look ridiculous in this?” often cross my mind when I am putting together my looks, and I know many other attendees feel the same.

That is why I am here to give you some guidance on what to wear to the festival, so you can worry less about how you look and more about catching your favorite artist on stage.

What’s trending now?

At Relentless Beat’s festival in October, Goldrush, Western-inspired outfits stole the show, with seemingly every other attendee rocking cowboy hats and cow prints.

Decadence AZ had less of a central theme, but offered a lot of bright neon, glow in the dark shape-wear, and pastel furs.

With that being said, those trends have been done, and Phoenix Lights is a clean slate for fresh trends.

Monochromatic looks:

While wearing every single color of the rainbow in a single outfit is totally acceptable at a rave, there is something so eye-catching about a monochromatic look.

Composing your outfit with one singular color can make for a super fun and unique look. Bonus points if you match the makeup as well!

Up-cycling:

Up-cycling old clothes into a one-of-a-kind piece is extremely popular right now and leaves little impact on both your wallet and the environment!

There are endless tutorials online that show you how to turn old clothing into fresh, trendy pieces. Here are some of my favorite no-sew tutorials.

Simple + sassy:

Since rave fashion is far from simple, staying low-key with your clothing can be a statement.

A lace bustier with some statement jewelry and bold sunglasses is great for a festival and every day.

All chained up:

The E-boy/girl trend is huge on pretty much every social media platform. A staple of the look is an excessive amount of silver jewelry and accessories.

Doubling (or tripling) up on your jewelry can add a nice “sparkle” to your look, and give it an edgy look

Hair/Makeup

The general rule of thumb when it comes to makeup/hair for certain festivals is when in doubt, add color and sparkle.

To summarize:

Festivals, especially ones like the Phoenix Lights, are all about having fun with your wardrobe and experimenting with new looks.

Take this event as a chance to step out of your comfort zone, you might find a style you really like.
