MIM Rocks Fashion Show

Phoenix fashion week hosted their 2nd Annual MIM Rocks Fashion event on Thursday, March 1, at the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix.

Director Brian Hill started this event as a way to highlight stylists in Arizona to continue pursuing their goal of moving Arizona fashion forward. Because stylists usually work behind the scenes as part of a team to create a fabulous show, their hard work can be overlooked and their vision is sometimes distorted to fit the aesthetic of the designer, hair and makeup team and show producer.

At the MIM Rocks Fashion event however, stylists were given control over the hair, makeup, and even music to bring the clothing from their designers/store owners to life. Fawn Cheng, Brian Swan, Jill Laine and Ginger Murphy all produced amazing shows that highlighted different countries around the world from the United States, to Mexico and France.

Playing up the sensuality so prevalent in Mexican culture, Fawn Cheng created a show that left the audience feeling passionate and alive. Sexy cutouts, beaded details and silky fabrics came together in evening wear that transported one out of Phoenix and to the heart of Mexico. Statement jewelry from the line Virgin Saints and Angels and red lipstick complimented all the looks.

Bounty Hunter has finally made its way from Colorado to its second location at the Biltmore Fashion Park. The store celebrated by bringing its greatest menswear lines to the MIM catwalk, featuring lines from James Jeans, Aeronautica Militare, Zoe Rios and more. The store aims to fuse the warmth of its Colorado home with the edgy trends and rising fashion scene of Phoenix, and with the help of stylist Brian Swan of RHMStyle the goal was achieved. Chiseled, polished and urbane looks dominated the runway with a little flair of debonair – Swan said his inspiration was Ryan Gosling in the movie Drive. Swoon.

Ginger Murphy took the eclectic style of Vintage by Misty and created a variety of looks that perfectly reflected American culture. “I’m all about prints, color and texture,” said Misty during the press conference that prefaced the event. This was definitely reflected in the show, which transitioned from a nautical vibe to Woodstock hippie to 60’s mod, finishing with vacation getaway dresses. Vintage by Misty reflected a variety of aesthetics while pulling every look together with a very American vibe.

French designer Caroline Monick flew all the way from her small town in France to the MIM catwalk, and she undoubtedly stole the show. This line was clearly suffused with her European roots and the French love for femininity and elegance. The silk-loving designer’s pieces were light, playful periwinkle or light-colored dresses accessorized by stylist Jill Laine with coco-inspired drapes of pearls or nothing at all – very romantic, sweet and chic.
