As Britain celebrates Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, Her Majesty’s 60-year reign is as impressive as it is inspiring. Almost as notable is the royal family’s maintenance of their impeccable style. The current family has an incredible ability to mix designer and High Street fashion, all while maintaining a quintessentially British look.
Queen Elizabeth II
The Queen has always had a strong sense of style. Her 1953 coronation dress is remembered for its beauty and intricacy, while her brightly colored suits and matching hats have always been her go-to choices when performing her royal duties. Even in the modern age, the Queen has continued to choose shapes and styles that are flattering and timeless.
Because the Queen is constantly on her feet, she has someone break in her shoes for her before she wears them out. Stewart Parvin, a designer to Queen Elizabeth, also said that her outfits always look impeccable because she doesn’t sweat. “If you’re a cold person, your clothes don’t crease,” Stewart told the Sunday Times. Ok, two words: royally jealous.
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge
Catherine (a.k.a Kate Middleton) has been a style icon since she was thrust into the royal spotlight almost two years ago during her engagement to Prince William. Since then, her choices of outfits from High Street designers such as LK Bennett and Reiss have sold-out everywhere, while her British couturier choices have ushered in a new era of English fashion.
While Catherine is often dressed to the nines, her true personality shines through when she’s with William. Whether it’s taking new puppy Lupo out for a walk, or wearing matching cowboy hats in Canada, Kate’s casual style with her new husband lets us see the real her: a small town girl with big city style.
The Brothers: Prince William and Prince Harry
From a polo match in London to dancing in Jamaica, the two princes always look sharp. Harry is definitely the more adventurous of the two (and no, we’re not referring to that infamous Nazi costume!), with his blue suede shoes as the perfect example. But William is not far behind, always dressing the part and being the perfect compliment to his wife. Together, the boys are the perfect examples of English gentleman, riding boots included.
In past centuries, the royal family has been the head of British government and politics. While they no longer serve that role, the royal family is still vital to the country. Not only are they symbolic figureheads, but their charity work brings great positive attention to their name and to their country. They’re also fabulous dressers!
So, in light of the Diamond Jubilee, God Save the Queen and God Save Their Style!
